I've got a fairly packed semester, trying to finish up all my graduation requirements so I can be out of here asap. Because of this, it means that at the end of the day I'm generally up to my neck in classwork and don't have nearly as much time as I'd like to spend on AT stuff during the week. Thankfully with the new team we've got here you shouldn't notice a drop in the amount of content being published. But last night, I was laying in bed and I couldn't sleep...so I came downstairs and just felt the need to write something so I put together the AMD 2004 CPU Roadmap article, I hope you enjoy it :)

Derek has been working on a large video card roundup, reviewing all of the individual manufacturers' cards based on everything from the Radeon 9600 to the GeForce FX 5950. We're going to be focusing on overclocking, noise and cooling since we're already crowned performance leaders in all of the market segments of these GPUs. I anticipate testing taking about a week, but I'm not sure of a publication date yet.

The next few months will be very release heavy with everything from Prescott and Grantsdale to Socket-939 being released by the time April is over with. We also have NV4x to talk about somewhere along the road, it'll be interesting to see what happens because this is NVIDIA's chance to prove that they've got staying power. If NV4x doesn't hold its own against ATI's R420 however...

I've got about an hour before my next class so I've got to make a few phone calls and see if I can secure a location for the wedding. I'm expecting an interesting package later this evening, maybe I'll be back to talk about it when I pick it up...

Take care.

Can you tell us when the NDA on Prescott runs out? Or is that information itself part of the NDA? ;)

hello Anand! sorry to bulk your blog, but I found this to be an easier way to talk with you. Well, I was really interested in the test you made with the low budget CPUs. Even more interested in the overclock tests, once that the performance increase from 2ghz to 3ghz is not proportional to the increase in the prices! so, 2ghz for the masses! we all would like to see that OC tests... ;-) thanks!

R420 it is then, how soon are you guys going to roll out the pci-express previews?
  • derek wilson - Tuesday, January 13, 2004 - link

nv4x will be native agp bus, but nvidia will offer bridged pciexpress versions of their cards when motherboards start shipping with pciexpress slots.

    r420 will have native pciexpress.

Is the NV4x and R420 going to be PCI-Express?
