It is a non-Pro Surface 3 w/ less vertical resolution and no Office 365 sub, basically

Resolution of this Lenovo tablet and Surface 3 are the same (1920x1200). Perhaps you are thinking of screen size (10.1" vs 10.8").

    The Surface 3 is 1920*1280 as it's a 3:2 display.

Hi, I'd like to know whether this tablet still use the same Wacom pen as the old one (EMR) or the newer EAS?

They should've step up to 4GB ram model only. 2GB is too limiting for these tablets.

49$ is a lot for an adapter, sure the hardware might be 10$ ( a minimal SoC , 1.5-3$ of RAM , a few MB of flash and a sub 2$ wifi/usb chip) while the box content is another 10$ but it's a lot for what it offers. Even a Chromecast is a lot more hardware and more useful.
Speaking of Chromecast ,they need a hardware upgrade tomorrow.

The more useful bit is debatable... I own a Chromecast, and a Nexus Player, and two Miracast devices (old Netgear box and a Fire TV Stick), and several DNLA streamers (including a music only Beep), and they each have their uses.

I don't use the Google devices outside the house, nor for music in rooms where there isn't a TV, and those are still two glaring weaknesses of their lineup... Straight up mirroring from device to device still works better than casting in some situations too.

Well, this replaces a 1$ cable (that could retail for 10$ or 50$) while Chromecast is more of a full blown device that you might be underutilizing . It's true that Google has no focus at all and all it's products are neglected so the poor Chromecast has evolved way too slow.

    That's a lot of bezel.
  • GatesDA - Thursday, May 28, 2015 - link

Some people would rather have it be smaller and lighter, but I personally prefer a tablet with enough bezel to hold on to.

I have the old one. The best way to hold it is upside down so you hold the rounded corners which are much easier to hold than the squared off ones.

I have an old 2013 Lenovo Miix 2 which is a lovely little tablet but it's a bit too small to use with desktop Windows. This new Thinkpad Tablet could be its replacement, especially with the built-in pen and 4 GB RAM.

why not just buy a surface 3 then?

Do we have benchmarks of these Atom GPUs anywhere yet?
And I do hope the 4GB/128GB/3G model does not hike the price too high... Manufacturers seem to go for the $50 pricing increments just for the sake of round numbers or something, but none of the upgrades costs them nearly as much in reality.

Look up reviews of the Surface 3 (recently released non-Pro version). Uses the Atom x7.
