Why do you assume that the *only* thing consumers are interested in are games ? I use audio mixing software that includes stuff like convolution reverb (which is a bit like ray tracing for audio), and trust me, a few instances of that can use up as many cores as you want to throw at it.

I use FL Studio a lot for music production as a hobby. FL loves threads and will happily gobble as many as you can give it. This is true of most DAWs.

FWIW, the difference between AMD and Intel now can be traced back to hiring of Dr Su. I knew of her at MIT when I was an undergrad. Went straight through to get her PhD in EE at MIT which is only reserved for the best of the best (most mortals at MIT are encouraged to go elsewhere for grad school). She was a superstar at IBM. It would have served IBM well to have made her CEO. IBM’s loss was AMD’s windfall. Intel prior to the recent hire was run by marketing people, not engineers.

That's the vibe I get as well. People Like Su, Jensen, Gordon Moore etc. They aren't like most executives who are usually sales or marketing types. They are actual engineers and have a deep understanding of what it is their company does. Which is a very important skill in tech. When Dr. Su gets on stage and talks about Ryzen, she isn't regurgitating lines marketing gave her, she is talking about a product that she helped create.

Most people don't understand that the position of CEO and President really are two different roles. The president of the company is the person who runs the company, while the CEO is responsible for getting investors and trying to hype the company and drive up stock prices. People like Steve Jobs were good at both positions, but the majority of CEOs out there are idiots with a MBA from some well known business school who have zero understanding of technology, so should NOT be running things at a technology company.

Get these CEOs out of the running of the companies they are supposed to hype, and those companies would do much better.

Has anyone asked how much DRAM is in the I/O die? The slides don't even mention it as a possible L4 cache. A gigabyte in there could serve an IGP really well.

Since the only Ryzen 3rd generation processors announced so far do not have a GPU, then expect that there isn't any memory on the I/O die. APUs will show up later, probably after the Ryzen 3 and 5 products get their specs released.
