FP, you just have to look at board partners and announcements by others releasing hardware that will take advantage of what AMD is about to bring to the table. As pleased as I was about the 1st/2nd gen Ryzen (their great products..) Asus/MSI/Gigabyte and the like didn't actually release a lot of products for them... A very different scenario this time with the upcoming launch. Their not just doubling down their tripling and quadrupling down releasing some pretty high end stuff. That's a good indicator right there.. ad to that Amd strutting about like a proud lil rooster all indicates their not bsing us.

REQUEST Maya and V-Ray benchmarks when you test the R9. Even though this isn't HEDT, a lot of us would be considering this for content creation / animation work.

Anyone expecting to see cooling problems with on the parts with no filler for the missing chiplet die? I imagine heat spreaders are designed to make contact with the chip before the edges make contact with the package, so on the corner with no chiplet the heat spreader will get pushed down further than the other corners, either in manufacturing or when tightening down the cooler. The result is either the heat spreader warps, or the opposite corner is raised off the chip. Most will work, but may have higher defect rate. Reminds me of the problems with Alienware laptop tripod heatsink, which made flat pressure contact with the die difficult due to warping.

So exciting to see the CPU market competitive again. I'm hoping AMD can bring the heat to NVIDIA in the GPU market also (though the latest Navi details indicate they're not seriously pushing the price downward).

Only on mistake in your article Ian, good work!

"The Ryzen 7 3700X is an eight core, sixteen thread CPU with a 3.6 GHz base frequency and a 4.4 GHz turbo frequency. It has 4 MB of L2 and 36 MB of L3..."
32MB not 36MB (What's with all the extra spaces?):

You always put spaces between values and units.

I must be too used to the more terse writing of the linux command line. :)

So, Intel can do all 8-cores at 5Ghz (sans AVX), but AMD can't do more than ... how many cores exactly at 4.5Ghz (3800X)?
